Monday vs. The Pizza

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

I am still to this day catching up on freelance stuff. I’m still taking work home with me from my day job. I’m finding that I become reticent to push away my friends because I can only think about the work in front of me. I miss my friends.

I have recently discovered through word of mouth that the only girl with whom I ever fell in love, who subsequently fell in love with a much more befitting guy, is now married; this makes me feel old in a very new and jarring way.

My Xbox360 has the Red Ring of Death again.

In Los Angeles summer heat, the air conditioner I moved into my room is as effective as when it used to be a fan in a window; this is a waste of hundreds of dollars.

A colony of ants is staging a coup near the kitchen sink.

My bank account is merely a conduit for the money I make to move towards the institutions that then devour it and demand more.

I am running on little to no sleep.

However, my roommate makes ridiculously delicious pizza.

I feel fine.

Get Through Monday – Earlybirding

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Last night, I went to bed early because for some reason, Sunday was immensely sleepy.

And today, despite having tons of work in front of me, I feel fine.

We’ll see how long that lasts.

At least the beginning part of the day was manageable…

Desensitivity

Ok people.

I’m sick, but not sick enough to be out of the office.

And the work I’m doing today
is the necessary evil that is sorting spreadsheets;
which means the work is mindless,
but that’s not such a bad thing considering my critical thinking skills
are currently out of commission.

Sniffle, sort, cut, paste, repeat.

Goes to show:

If you feel nothing,
at least you don’t feel bad.

Zeitgeist

If my last post’s responses are any indication,
you, like me, share some very base tenets and outlooks on life
with many other people.

These people aren’t just like-minded.

They’re alike in spirit, and alike in time.

Zeitgeist comes from German,
zeit being “time” and geist being “spirit,”
and there’s a reason those words come together as a compound.

The people around you will prove it.

And there is safety in numbers.

Prevention Is Safety

If you’re like me,
you’ve been saving for weeks to afford
furniture (repairs),
two birthday presents,
[EDIT]a 5 string bass guitar[/EDIT],
and some video games.

Regardless of what you’ve been spending
or if it came into culmination over the weekend,
being back in the office (or in class) prevents you
from further hurting your bank account.

And there’s something to be said for that.

Also, for further protection,
do not visit Etsy or Woot.

Can We Go Home Now?

If you are asking yourself this,
at least you’re not thinking,

“OMG already???
I need more time to finish this!”

Boredom can be zen
compared to the manic
batshit craziness
of stress.

Admit It.

Sometimes,
it’s healthy to recognize
that Mondays
will always suck.

Don’t be surprised,
and you’ll move on that much
more quickly.

Move It!

Some rare weekends
will be spent
rolling up sleeves,
wiping sweat off foreheads,
and moving your furniture
into a new situation.

Who is this new person
moving into the building?

Whoever they damn well please,
that’s who.

Question Answering Efficiency

When people ask you how
the bachelor party you attended over the weekend was,
all they really want to know is if there were strippers.

Just get to the point
so you can get back to
drinking coffee and working.

The Kick Start

I drank too much coffee this morning.

But this turned out to be a good thing;
it’s better to rifle through
lots of initial Monday morning work with the jitters
than to have to deal with the work
with the post-lunch food coma.
