Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release

Quick post today, and it's as follows:

While I've been enjoying everyone's #Reverb10 posts and thoughts, I couldn't help but think about the musician's definition of reverb, which is specifically "the persistence of sound in a particular space after the original sound is removed." That first part of the definition goes along with the inspiration behind all the #Reverb10 prompts just fine. However, there's a part of the definition that I can't help but keep in my own mind: "The sound source stops but the reflections continue, decreasing in amplitude, until they can no longer be heard."

What I'm hoping is that that second part of the definition in reverb (known to musicians as the R in the ADSR envelope, ie. 'release') does not apply to our #Reverb10 friends.

The reflections I'm seeing are too good to let go.

That said, I'd like to wish everyone luck in the second half of December:

Sustain, #Reverb10 participants. Do not release.

Come 2011, I want to hear these reflections from you, loud and clear.

Good post. As a musician, that metaphor really hit home. Thanks =)

The second part? I'm hoping that it continues, too! It's amazing what a few prompts can do.

I'm bummed I missed out on #reverb10, but I guess I can mentally prepare for next year.
